What’s Your Story…

Judges 2:10 (NIV)

10 After that whole generation had been gathered to their ancestors, another generation grew up who knew neither the Lord nor what he had done for Israel.

Every night around 8pm we go through the same routine. We send our girls upstairs to get ready for bed. After everyone has gone potty, brushed their teeth, and put on their pajamas… the same question comes. “Daddy, can you ready us a story?”

Whether it be through a book, movie, tv show, or sitting around a kitchen table and listening to someone share… Everyone loves a good story.

The truth: People will remember stories… They wont remember bullet points!

Can you give me the bullet points from the most impactful sermon you heard in 2007?

Chances are… you don’t remember… But I bet you can think back on a story from that year. Something that happened with you and your family. A vacation. An event.

Stories grab our heart… because we become emotionally connected. We identify with each other through our stories. Information is learned through points… Hearts are connected through stories!

But what happens when we don’t know each others stories…

Judges 2:10 may be the saddest verse in all the Bible. Joshua and his generation had done incredible things. They crossed the Red Sea, conquered Jericho, and spent time with Moses. But they failed to share their stories with the next generation. So they grew up and didn’t know God!

Our stories are powerful. And an incredible tool for connecting with people!

I get asked by people all the time… “How do I share my faith?”

The answer is easy… Share your story! Nobody can argue with your story!

When we begin to share our stories… We see:

  1. God is faithful
  2. We’re not alone
  3. We can make it through tough situations.

Prayer:

Father I pray for the courage and opportunity to share my story with someone today. The story of how faithful you have been to me. Help them to know that whatever they may be facing… they aren’t alone.
